We are delighted to announce that we have now officially opened our doors and welcomed our first young person, BS, into our new residential school.
Karen Banton, Head of Care at the school says BS, who joined us earlier this month, is settling into both the home’s and the school’s routines well and is enjoying positive connections with all of the adults around her. BS looks forward to being joined by her peers both in the home and at school where she has made a flying start to her new placement.
The Derwen School is a residential school in Gobowen, near Oswestry which offers both residential and day placements for children with learning disabilities and difficulties aged between 11 and 18. The school provides personalised education programmes which are delivered by qualified specialist teachers with learning opportunities which are both stimulating and challenging. Our team of expert staff work to deliver a 24 hour curriculum to our young people across both our school and our on-site residential homes, allowing young people to transfer the valuable skills learnt in school across to the home settings.
Young people at the school also have access to specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, sports hall, sports field and gym for exercise and activities and large lounges and dining areas to encourage socialising.
We look forward to welcoming new young people into the school and join BS over the coming weeks.
